Consensus Mechanisms¶
Consensus mechanisms are protocols that allow distributed networks to agree on the state of the blockchain. Different mechanisms offer different trade-offs between security, decentralization, and performance.
Mechanisms¶
| Mechanism | Description |
|---|---|
| Proof of Work (PoW) | Mining-based consensus used by Bitcoin |
| Proof of Stake (PoS) | Staking-based consensus used by Ethereum |
| Delegated PoS (DPoS) | Representative staking model |
| Proof of History (PoH) | Time-based ordering used by Solana |
| PBFT | Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance |
| DAG | Directed Acyclic Graph consensus |
| BFT | Byzantine Fault Tolerance |
| Raft | Leader-based consensus for distributed systems |
| Paxos | Classic distributed consensus algorithm |
